Messing around with more positioning and attending to the fallen parts of my installation. I like the idea of the installation continuing to change and morphing over time especially when it collapses and different segments change. It's like a performance piece of sorts. although, this can only go so far, if I were to officially install this somewhere i'd like it to stand and stay in one piece due to health and safety reasons, the materials are relatively light but still. Also, i need to invest in heavier duty reinforcements, frog tape and masking tape are not cutting it. I liked the DIY / hardware aspect of tape and how lowkey as i feel it adds to the process of selecting material and it also brings an interesting texture to the installation. It just doesn't seem to work, or maybe it's the studio walls? The tape always falls off or doesn't want to stick to the paper. I think for future ideas I'm going to get a staple gun or nails to help reinforce it to the space it's in. or maybe i could find a balance between the two, keeping the tape whilst also using nails ?

My friends and I held our own group crit on Monday night. It was really great and it was a great opportunity to see each others work as last year we were all in the same studio except now this year we're not. Some of us have been in crits together but we felt we should do a more lowkey and personal one amongst ourselves.

A friend gave me some beach "slag" so I decided to incorporate them into my work as i love their forms and textures.

I thought about creating bronze casts of them and recreating them to create multiples, but i'm not sure i'd have enough time to complete them. So at the moment i'm going to keep them as is, I feel like they're already quite special because of their originality but it would be cool to create replicas in bronze.

3D Experiments

exploring taking objects and pictures and turning them into 3D rendered objects to then be developed into sculptures or objects of their own. I was thinking of creating bronze or plaster replicas as I love the results both offer me. The third experiment didn't work out as well.

I spoke to Louise Ritchie as she mentioned the CNC cutter so i decided to try that out and it surprisingly worked out quite well. However, the cutter was not measured out as well and began eating the print up which was due to a miscalculation but I still got a great result. I'm definitely gonna do more cnc cutting next semester and in the future to develop into sculptures or prints.

CNC cut from 3D rendered imagry.

The texture and impression is insane, i loved the result despite it not being fully finished.

Finally got back into etching.

The plate turned out really well and I love the whole process behind etching, it was one of the workshops I was dying to get back into. I'm still learning and building experience with etching as i'm not the best at it but i love it regardless. I made a few prints out of the plates i done and i'm happy with the results! However, due to being too precious with removing ink i feel like i have a long way in getting the balance right, it's either too much ink left behind or sections are missing ink. I do think my prints could be more clear and precise without the excess ink, however this is just the start. I was speaking to Pete and we were talking about including textures into my work, which I think would help enhance it too. I left some areas on the plate for that reason. I'm gonna revisit this plate next semester as time and covid tests caught up with me.

I'm thinking about possibly moving from copper plates and maybe onto steel ones next semester.
