Getting into the swing of things, i began creating environments with the fabric i have and seeing which sort of shapes and forms i could create with different materials. they were effective but i feel like i need to go slightly larger and take it out of the studio space to see how my work would look in a different environment and whether or not it would still hold the same form and concept out with my studio mindset.
Merging my drawing work with my installation is still a process i'm trying to master and figure out the best way to do so without losing elements of both. i'm starting to get back into projection work and figuring out if it might be best to project drawings on top of my installation work ? that might add another element and depth to my work overall. I guess i'm overwhelmed right now with all the possibilities for my work and i'm trying to figure out the best way to ground it and not stray too far away from my initial plan. I want my drawing / painting work to speak for itself but also incorporate little elements of it into my installation work whether through projection, sculpture or text. i'm trying to build off pre-existing experiences and add to them and see which outcome will be best overall.

The introduction to my modules has been interesting and fun i am eager to experiment using the workshops. it has been harder to access the workshops this year but it gets to me to plan my day out more effectively and get what i need done. it feels like jumping through hoops at times but i understand the reason why. Familiarising myself within the workshops is a top priority, as it will benefit me in the long run and means if one experiment doesn't work i can find another within the workshops.
I went to the clay workshop to experiment with taking the mountains and shapes from my drawings and turning them into three dimensional forms. They seem to be going well at the moment and I like the feeling and textures the clay gives me and the gestural forms. working with clay gave me another idea that reminds me of wall climbing grips. i thought about eventually building a wall or incorporating the objects i make into a sort of walk or climb up a 'mountain'. i like the idea of my work being interactive, but with current times that might seem a bit problematic. i'll still experiment with tactile elements even if it's for my own purpose. the materials i use and the purpose of them is integral to my process as i like being able to have fun with inexpensive materials and not think twice about the outcome.
Forming elements of my work has been Haegue Yang, Peter Doig, Aidan Koch and recently Urs Fischer. The way they deconstruct environments and add their own mystical elements and how they view spaces is something i'm interested in and want to explore myself. I've fallen in love with Urs Fischers' use of clay and how they form imagined and spontaneous places and their use of texture and shape. Peter Doig's work has always sort of been a back bone to my process and the way I envision a landscape or environment. I seriously love his use of colour and muted colour palette and the way these colour bathe landscapes in a dream like hue. I've began researching more into Haegue Yang as I really love how her work captivates a space and illustrates her ideas. I like working larger and I can feel myself gaining more confidence and experience through experimentation while looking at artists like Fischer and Yang to further inform my processes and work.
"Yes" Urs Fischer, 2011.
I loved this exhibition as it was interactive as well. It took part in various locations around the world and invited the public to take part in the piece. I liked this idea as i've always leaned towards interactive art and how people/the viewer experience it and interact with it. Particularly interested in how the viewer becomes part of the piece and acts as almost the final element to the installation over all. I want to experiment with this idea and see how it develops. Although given current circumstances, I could always use myself as the solo-experiment.
Series of Vulnerable Arrangements, Voice and Wind, 2010 & "Cittadella" Haegue Yang.
I love these pieces as I love their sheer magnitude and how they fill a space. I really like the idea of using every day items to create enormous, immersive and overpowering installations and how the space, environment and people react to it. I've been looking more into how the viewer and myself interact with my work and what I would and can gain from a tactile/immersive element being apart of the forefront for my ideas. I think projection and lighting would help me with these elements as i'm love the way light refracts and dances around the objects I make.
