back to the botanics

Went back to the botanics with my friend Emily, we spent a morning here drawing the plants and flowers.

some studies of the plants within the greenhouse. made my own lil environment out of all of them :)

got some mirrored perspex laser cut , i've always imagined mirrors within my work and have used them before, but never the way i had intended. they added another reflective and light element to my work as when the sun refracted off the mirror it projected the shape and light around the installation making it more immersive.

Cat Collab: Willows Residency

"Purple Paws on forest green" 2021, watercolour on paper.

Had a mini collaboration with my cat Willow, playing on the interactive element of my work i decided to include more fun and spontaneous work. It was a fun activity and Willow seemed to enjoy it too, after reading the "Why cats paint book" I decided to try it for myself and see how Willow would react. At first, hesitant and scared, then tried to eat the paint and then finally dipped paws into the paint and done some marks. The book catergorizes the cats into movements and I think Willow would be an abstract minimalist based on her mark making techniques.

experimenting with mirrors in the woods back home.

went home for Easter weekend and decided to take some pieces home to place them around the woods and see how they would interact with the environment. the mirror refracted light around onto the trees and ground, although due to it being too bright it wasn't as effective.

laser cut pieces around the woods, i really liked the way the perspex stood out and acted like little portals. I felt they maybe needed the fabrics alongside with the perspex but i forgot to bring it with me. although it was interesting to see how my work looks outside of a studio environment as well as within a natural one instead of a manmade one. the perspex would move freely due to the wind and i thought about incorporating a fan or something similar for my work when its back in the studio, but i thought about when people walk in between the installation, the pieces will move freely anyway. it is still something to consider for the fabrics i'm using.
