Nothing much has been happening, i've ordered some fabric to make a garment / jacket with. I was really inspired after my open tutorial on Monday and decided to stick with one of my initial plans to create clothing which is both part functional and installation. I liked the idea of the pieces being stationary at first and then people can wear them amongst the installation and become the piece themselves. My tutorial gave me an interesting collective to look at called "Studio Orta" they explore a wide range of interdisciplinary methods in creating work in relation to spaces, people and environments. It got me thinking about how functional my ideas would really be in terms of weather and other important factors. I've never done much pattern cutting so I thought this would be the perfect time to explore the ways in which a piece of clothing is constructed. https://www.studio-orta.com/en/artwork/20/nexus-architecture-x-110

This video reminds me of the movie "us" with Lupita Nyong'o and Jordan Peele where the characters all wear red jumpsuits and wander around with gold scissors. Not related but the jumpsuits reminded me of that movie. But, i like how the performers dance through the town and interact with the surroundings. It's like a walking installation.

Ana Rewakowicz "Home to Scale, 2001"

i really like the idea of taking fabrics and other materials and turning it into a wearable installation or piece. i'd prefer something that's more "comfortable" and welcoming than the opposite, i'm still trying to figure out the best way to incorporate both. i've gotten some fabric online but it's thinner than expected , i could always insulate it with another one or add layers. I really like Ana Rewakowicz piece as the shapes and texture is intriguing and looks like a rocks or clouds, i'm still interested in bringing in the natural elements into my work as it's a constant catalyst for my thinking process.

I've been drawing and drawing, i've been thinking about ways to incorporate the drawing into my other work and i've decided to keep it lofi and not too prescribed. I want to stitch into the clothing i make with my drawings and try some fabric printing when I can return to DJCAD. I'm missing the printing department as I have some etching plates sitting in my room which i'm itching to print. I think i'm making headway in my work and how I envision certain aspects of it.

life drawing class has been a greta help to keep my ideas flowing and mind occupied, i've found i'm becoming better at life drawing and seeing things from different perspectives more clearly now. i've decided to filter some of the observational aspects of life drawing into my project, I decided on the idea of "First impressions" like this life drawing class - which is my first activity of every Tuesday - i'll document what I see first or hear first and maybe continue with that into my studio space and collate a big drawing of markings and drawings of my day but simplified.

Back to painting

trying to stay on top of painting but can feel my self losing grip of it, i've been too preoccupied with other things. I'm having fun turning my dreams, memories and thoughts into made up worlds, it's been very therapeutic and refreshing. I want to create a series of paintings. The colour blue has been appearing a lot in my sketches and i've been drawn to it lately, I think i might create a series of blue paintings and see where it takes me.

I'm in love with Sanya Kantarovsky's work, especially these two pieces "Kolobok" 2014 (left) and "Sky Alliance" 2015 (right) Kantarovsky's use of multimedia has always been a challenge for me, I'm still trying to find what works for me. I like their use of oil, pastel and water colour and have been keen to get back into oil painting as i haven't done it since college. I have a love/hate relationship with oil painting and i can feel the love coming back for it.
