This week saw semester two come to an abrupt end as COVID-19 began spreading across Europe. It was really stressful as
we had one only a few days to collect our belongings and document work that was too big to take home. However, it did make me think more on my feet when coming to documentation as I had to be as quick as possible and not fret too much over what and why I am taking a photo and what details I want to capture.
Leaving the studios was really sad as me and my friends had so much work to continue with and plans of our own to finish. But we all know it is for the best and it makes complete sense to shut down the studio/ art school in a pandemic. Hopefully we can return soon and pick up were we left off.
Taking my work back to my room was quite a hassle as I live up four flights of stairs, it was nice to see my body of work in one space outside the studio and how it looked overall with no white walls or fluorescent lighting.
Me and my friends, Alex and Lily moved our conversations online to Netflix Party and we began watching the Twilight Saga together - we finished it over 4 days as we would drop everything and meet up at 8pm everyday to watch it. Thank God for technology like this.
It feels really good to stay in touch with and 'see' my friends outside of text messages.
I also had to begin packing up my belongings from my flat and move out permanently, as my family and myself were worried that the imminent lockdown would leave me stranded in Dundee and I'd rather be at home. I had no intentions of moving out until June, and now had to move all my stuff back home 3 months in advance which was a nightmare. I brought some materials and work back home so hopefully I can figure out a way to continue with my work outside of the studio.
On Sunday, the day before leaving and lockdown, I decided to walk to the Law. I've never been and it was a nice day so why not - I kept my distance from every one I passed and they made sure they did too. I wanted to get out and visit Dundee before I left for the time being and it felt really good to go for a walk after being inside all week. It gave me some inspiration too for my work, as I have began looking more into trees and the environment surrounding them.
