This week allowed for me to gather my thoughts as I felt a bit lost during the process of my work. I went home during this week due to my mum going for an operation on the Sunday and I wanted to see my family.
I began experimenting with my work outside the studio space and in my own room and in the seminar room. I really like the idea of how my work interacts with other spaces and what a space is. I played around with an iron, glasses and the mirror in my room. It created textures and little fragments of my work around my room which was interesting and brought about new ideas for my work in the future. particularly in how I address my work, is it solely and installation or is it an interactive installation as when I moved the materials and objects around I feel as if it brought my work alive and to a new level in which I was happy with. I loved the way the images bounced around the room and interacted with the angular shapes of my room and how they fragments were distorted and warped.
I began researching into artists such as Ruri and Ela Boyd who focus around spaces and places. In particular the pieces " reflection, refraction, projection, 2011" by Ela Boyd and "Water Vocal - Endangered" By Ruri. These pieces explore the tangible and intangible, Boyd creates hologram worlds exploring perception with her use of lighting, photography and film. Her work is particularly interesting as the projections she uses add dimensions to her work, which is something I had not thought about before, I never considered how much my projections could add or take away from a piece. I want my imagery to speak for itself and be accompanied by it's fragments scattered and dancing around the room by mirrors. like Boyd, I want create small environments or "world" within spaces and replicate the tangible and an illusion of the intangible. I enjoy recreating landscapes in my work and bringing them into the world through different means. like Ruri, I would like to focus on environmental aspects of my work more, and how the natural - as well as the urban landscape form my work. Ruri focuses on environmental issues within their work such as global warming. As seen in "Water Vocal Endangered" Ruri explores waterfalls and the natural landscape of Iceland , their home country, and how human interference has lead to the landscape changing permanently. The installation depicts waterfalls of past and present and the panels represent them. The installation has interactive audio and when viewers walk within the installation the audio is disrupted or effected. I have began experimenting with including audio and film in my work as a means to bring forward other elements, I want my work to be interactive too. I think bringing these aspects into my work will not only enhance it but further improve the depiction of my ideas.
