this week saw Art school move online with the help of Microsoft teams. We had our first meeting on the 19th and it went really well, it felt good to get reassurance from our tutors about how the course will progress and what to expect over the upcoming weeks.
on Monday I finally left Dundee and went back home to Irvine. the drive back was relaxing as it put my worries and anxiety at rest. I soaked in the landscapes around me and got some ideas for future work - but I am giving myself a breather from work for a while.
Tuesday saw us have our second online meeting, this time it was a group critique. we each showed our work on a powerpoint which also helped with when it comes to submitting our work online, we got a glimpse of what it would look like before officially submitting. I liked the way my work looked in person more, I feel as if sometimes cameras obscure or take away from objects and drawings. I tried to regain some of the details lost from cameras and scanners on photoshop to hopefully bring my work back to the standard I am happy with.
the crit helped me concrete my thoughts and ideas more clearly. it made me question my work and where I could see improvements, in the likes of adding other elements such as sound or more interactive qualities. Also, I began looking into "The perceptions of the Environment" and how people interpret the spaces around them. I feel as if this has given me more groundwork for where my work is headed and has helped me confidently explore my thoughts more solidly.
The rest of the week was spent catching up on sleep and binging Glee with Alex and Lily. Also, my friends from Studio One all decided we would send letters to one another over the time we're off. we decided it would be nice to send drawings and other art related things during this period.
I began looking into Maki Na Kamura and her work recently. I love her use of colour and shapes when painting landscapes. Also, how she washes down certain areas and makes them look cloudy and almost dreamlike. the details she layers on top of washed out landscapes are mesmerising. I love how she creates environments and worlds within her work with new details emerging at every new glance.
