Studio Set up
currently working on bigger drawings than usual and exploring how they would interact with my space. I liked the idea of having these big scrolls of drawings flowing between the installation and sculptures, sort of like a bridge between my sculptural and drawing work. I was inspired by Giuseppe Pinot Gallizio's "Industrial painting, 1958" work, I liked the idea of his paintings and drawings coming off the wall and into a space, or becoming the space. The transparency of the material he used was of particular interest as I like the overlapping of various elements of painting and text. I found within my own work that i needed to work on depth and adding more elements to make my work not to flat. Etching was my first point of call but due to limiting access i don't know if whether i can get into the print workshop.. I decided to work on my drawing ability and incorporate charcoals and pastels into my work to add a 'smudgy' element to add dimension.

Structure and positioning is still playing a part within my work, I want to take the work off the ground and wall and make it more free standing "alive". After my open tutorial with Louise Ritchie, we spoke about how to do just that, Louise mentioned a clothing line and i though that was a great idea, i went to b&m that same day and got some as the invisible wire i have isn't as strong when i start hanging perspex and other materials from it. The clothing line was perfect and held the weight it needed to.
creating sculptures and placing my laser cut pieces around my installation.
the laser cuts turned out really well and have a florescent glow to them almost like a light, i'd thought about using lighting for my work but time got ahead of me and I wish i could've played around with projections again too. I think it is definitely things to take up on in the future and pursue the things i didn't get to do throughout the next semester. However, i'm really pleased with how my work has developed from last semester and even since second year, i feel i'm finally my own voice and aesthetic. my knowledge of colour theory and interest in landscapes and space has really nurtured this progression as i've introduced more elements and been able to intertwine my drawing with my installation work. the laser cuts acted as pieces of their own alongside physical drawings, the way they refract light and project onto surrounding surfaces is something i love and think they add another dimension to my installation. They're like little pieces of gold scattered around my installation - it's almost like a treasure hunt.
SCT group finally set up our open call, although it's a shame how only a few of us, me, Alex, Hannah, Lauren and Guen have kept the project running when there's 17 of us in a group... i understand people have other commitments but why sign up for a group project and contribute nothing yet chime into the discussion with things we discussed ages ago or confuse everyone. anyway, our project has hit the ground running, we just need to wait for people to respond and take part :)
