Continued experimentation and planning out ideas

The past few weeks nothing really has changed, i'm still at home and don't have much space or desire to create anything thats not a drawing or painting. I think once we can access the studios again my mindset will change.

thinking back to Studio Orta and Ani Krikorians wearable construct pieces, I began imagining my sculptures and installations as wearable pieces which could interact with the installation. I found the idea of being able to wear parts of my work really interesting and allowed for more freedom in terms of structure and positioning of materials. My installations are always changing due to either tape drying out, the materials falling or the wind blowing things down. I liked the idea of people becoming apart of the change of the landscape I make, they would try on the piece maybe create a performance and then move on but the piece in itself would be different due to it's new habitat around the installation.

exploring with the idea of smaller scale installations. (featuring a friend)

I had some materials at home that mimicked the ones I have in my studio: parcel paper, paper clay, cardboard and paper. I had a smaller supply of things but I still tried to make it work for the time being. The results were good although I was itching to make them bigger and more life-size. Small scale works don't do my ideas justice I feel, when I have an idea I want to follow through with it, which can be wishful thinking at times but it didn't hurt to try toning down my ideas to a scale fit for a cat. I think it definitely made me think of where and how my work would interact with a space in general, if things were too busy or juxtaposed one element off another. It was a good trial run to create a mock up of a smaller space, but the thought of just this wee mock up being part of my assessment wasn't something I was particularly keen on i'm hoping we can return to the studios soon and I can tackle my ideas in a bigger space and get my materials back too!

continuing with life drawing.

life drawing has been a staple of my weeks, it helps me with building a structure. I usually base my week around it and it gives me energy to continue with other ideas. I feel i'm making breakthroughs with my observational skills, these drawings were 30 & 40 minutes with coffee and pastels. I've had fun letting loose and playing with what comes to me first - the coffee was leftover from my coffee i had that morning, gross maybe but they're my drawings in the end and i think they look great haha.

Continued drawing and creating new worlds and figures to feed back into my work. I've really enjoyed constructing these imaginary worlds and seeing where they take me. I plan on incorporating the figures into my work through a more sculptural means. Other than that, my weeks have been spent life drawing, sketching and figuring things out , the same old same old. nothing really *new* has happened.

student curatorial team postal project - first art work received. the trial run went surprisingly well and we're ready to move onto the next stages of starting an open call for DJCAD and then potentially the public.
